Hi piolo,

The job mentioned in your visa / resident card is the job for which your company has got the clearance. Often times this is the practice. The company might be in urgent need for say, an accountant. But may not have the required job clearance. Instead they might be having a job clearance for a carpenter. So they will hire an expat employee for the accountant's post and would pass him off as a carpenter in all official documentation. Of course, this is illegal. But many companies resort to this practice to get their work going for want of proper clearances.

Answering your query, no, you cannot change what has been officially issued since there is no available clearance to your company for your specific job. You need to watch out for the surprise Ministry of Manpower checks which happen at regular intervals. Officials from the Ministry randomly drop into companies, approach the expatriate employees and ask for their resident card and tally it against what they are exactly doing. Any mismatch between what is mentioned and what the employee is doing would mean trouble for the employee as well as for the employer.

Wish you good luck and watch out.

Thanks for the information and advice.
Actually I've asked around and there are instances where companies request for change in profession in labour card.  This is done after the employee have been issued a labour card based on what is in his visa.  More often than not, the request for profession change is approved/allowed by MOM, as long as you have the documentary requirements like attested degree certificate.

Dear Piolo,

Have you managed to change the profession written on your labour card?
My husband is currently facing the same issue, his labour card does not comply with his employement contract which unable him to apply for family visa. The PRO says ROP rule regarding this has been changed.
Your advise would be highly appreciated.

Hi.

Im currently running a business along with my father in Oman. My visa is that of a Waiter. I was informed that my current jib does not allow me to possess a driving license.

Is it possible for mr to change my visa if my sponsor doesn't object to it?
