Advice on buying scooter or bicycle to get around Tamarin area

Hello

My husband and I have recently moved to Mauritius for three years. We are buying a car for him to get to work but I would like to be able to get around Tamarin and the local area with ease, so am thinking of getting a scooter or bicycle. I want either a scooter that can take two people (for when I have friends visit) or to buy two bicycles. If I go for the scooter option, does anyone know a reliable dealer for second hand ones please? Also, is 50cc sufficient for me to travel around at 20/30mph and to take a passenger for when I have friends visit or do I need a 125ccc? And can I drive one on my UK car driving license?

Also, can anyone recommend a place for buying bicycles?

Hi Tessa,

If you are going around Tamarin I think a scooter 50cc is enogh even for 2 persons.

I will not recommend a 2 wheeler at all with regards to the increased cases of road traffic accidents. Many people drink and drive all along the coast : This means you maybe riding safely but you never know who or what is coming ahead. A car is safer!!
Sorry for the pessimism.
