Where can I find Kale in Saigon?

I just arrived here a couple of days ago and have been to a few markets looking for kale. I was wondering if its available here and where I could find it.

Thank you!

I think the closest you're going to find is gai-lan (chinese brocolli), which you should be able to find readily at open markets.  I've never seen kale as we know it in the west.  Gai-lan is usually less crunchy, and also less bitter, but I'm sure it's just as healthy.

Cheers, Much appreciated!

Try to find out here. Perhaps it would helps you.

Same vegetable I mentioned above, but different english spelling.  I think "gai lan" is the cantonese  name -- there are a lot of people from Hong Kong in San Francisco, where I'm from, so that's what I call it.  What is the Vietnamese name for it?

By the way, this is what we call "kale" in the US.  It's very bitter and hard to chew unless cooked properly.  I like it, but it's not very delicious, which I think is the reason people think it must be really good for you. :D

Ah, ít is called "cải xoăn" in Vietnamese.  :top:

Hi,

I don't think Kale is available in hcm.  "Kai-lan" vegetable or spinach are good to substitute kale. I like water spinach toasting with garlic and beef.

Maybe try The Organik Shop in district 2. They have an online store too. www.organikvn.com
Try calling or emailing Arlene. Her contact details are on their website. If she doesn't have any in stock, she may know where to get it.

There is a kind of Vietnamese cabbage name "cai xanh" (you can search on Google for its images). Its flavor and nutrition is pretty similar to kale and available in all market.

I've also been looking for kale, Speedtrip have you had any luck?

It must be available somewhere because Guanabana have just started using it in their smoothies. Maybe I'll ask where they buy it :)

I heard about a salad bar called WowBox Salad at 70 Ham Nghi Dist 1. They have good salads, kale salad and kale smoothies too.

I often buy kale at vuonrau.com in Dist 3, and they have many other kind of vegetable too.
There's a vegetarian restaurant called Prem on Vo Van Tan str. where you can have kale salad too.

You can buy at Co.op Mark Supermarket. In Vietnam we call "cải xoăn".
