Looking for a job

Hi

I am shayeen from india. I am a graphic designer with 9 years of experience in the same and i am a commerce graduate.
I worked in Kuwait,  bahrain and india. Currently I am looking 4 a job in singapore as a graphic designer.

Is anyone can advice me the best source for searching job in singapore. Or how much it will cost for work visa or a visit visa?

How much it will cost for decent accommodation with twin sharing basis?

What is the best salary I should demand if I would be able to save after having good food, staying in a good locality with going for parties every weekend.

Thanks,

Have a nice day....

:)

Hi,

As you may have read on other threads or forums, finding a job in Singapore is not easy.
The key is having skills that locals (who must be hired first, by law) do not have, and finding an employer who needs them. Since I don't know the graphic design industry, I cannot comment on your chances there.
However, if you are serious in your attempt to find a job, you should visit Singapore to connect to relevant people in your industry. That is far better than just replying to job ads online.
The visit visa (if you need one) is cheap - and the work visa will be paid for by your employer.
Accommodation is very expensive in Singapore, due to the lack of space. If by "twin sharing" you mean two people in a room (which is common for lowly paid labourers), you can probably find a space for S$500-600/month. But do you really want to live like that? (A place in a "good locality" will cost more.)
"Good food" is a subjective term and can mean a S$200 meal in a five-star restaurant or a S$5 noodle dish at a hawker stall (some of them are surprisingly good).
Parties every weekend, and especially drinking alcohol, will make a serious dent in any budget, as these are extremely costly in Singapore.
Altogether, the best salary you should demand is, obviously, as much as you can get. You can google salary surveys published by various headhunters and consultancies to see what your market value is like - but as an Indian you will most probably get less, because there are too many of your contrymen desperate enough to accept any low offer.

Thanks beppi for your kind wordings and your time.

Seriously,  I am looking for a job in singapore but I can't go low on salary.  Yes you might be correct about indians negotiating low salaries but I don't have idea if it's true. Many times I believe the salary is depend on what you can offer your employer on your skills. If he finds you productive then he is ready to pay best you demand.

I am planning for a visit in singapore as through online I already failed to find a job opportunities and there is hardly any replies may be the reason is they are getting easy candidates in singapore itself. And in my field giving test job satisfy the employer better.

Regarding accommodation I need reasonable in the start but can go high with posh locality after getting desired job.

Thanks once again,
Hopefully I will visit soon.

Regards,
Shay

Good luck in your job search and salary negotiations - my feeling is that you will need it!
During your visit (i.e. before you have a work visa), you are restricted, by law, to staying in hotels, hostels and serviced apartments. Reasonable ones cost S$100-150/night, better above that.

Thanks kenjee,

Online jobs are difficult nowadays.  Hopefully I am planning a visit soon.

Kind regards,
Shayeen.

Thanks,  this information was useful. ....

I found getting visa is bit easy but the confusion starts after landing in singapore. Hopefully all gets well or otherwise I like roller coaster ride and my life is full of adventure.

See ya and GBU.

Shayeen.

Did you try to go for recruitment agencies?

We do have a few here such as Today's Career, Kelly Services, Recruit Express and more.

Honestly, I would not recommend Singapore anymore.
New FCF legislation makes justifying the hiring of a foreigner considerably harder, and rent here is the 4th most expensive in the world.  You will be better off still in the Middle East, from what I hear.

I would able to agree with AnotherBlue. It is true that SG getting more and more expensive. Especially for foreigner. For just a single room can cost about $600-800.

Singapore is beautiful, but I (being a westerner) am having trouble getting a job here.  It seems they are seeking locals first, and every generalist oriented (certain specialities like mind better handled in other countries).  Not to discourage you, I would highly recommend that you read up on FCF legislation and use online apps that compare cities' costs.  Singapore is definitely not a good destination at the moment.  If you are willing to learn Chinese, perhaps mainland China better?

This is the same (or worse) almost everywhere - especially in EU and USA!

The opposite is true in my experience: Singapore employers usually look for a very specific skillset fitting their needs of the day. E.g. it is not enough to know many softwares and to have demonstrated the ability to learn very quickly how to use them, No: They want detailed knowledge of exactly the one software the have now!
This even makes sense from the company's viewpoint, considering that the average Singapore employee stay only three years in a job, so a lengthy training period cannot be justified. (But I ask myself what is the cause and what the effect here ...)

Generalist vs specialist aspect may differ per industry & topic, I suppose.  Either way, whichever they want, may not help you if you are a foreigner.  Justification is much worse - something like 3 CPF-paying locals per every foreigner hired, etc.  If he still can, he should may consider another destination.

Have you applied for suitable jobs at companies in your industry in Singapore?
That is usually a good first step in finding work there.

Hi bebbi..

am looking some abroad jobs..i can u say.. how to find a job abroad

You can read the relevant country sub-forums to find tips on how to find jobs there.
But in the end you must do the hard work yourself, of sending applications, following up, making a good impression at interviews and convincing the employer that you are the best person to hire.
It does take lots of time, dedication, motivation and energy.

I would advise you to first decide which country you are interested in, then find out who the major players in your industry are there, and then approach them directly. In many places (incl. Singapore) it is advisable to be in the country to be able to approach and meet potential employers and build connections.
I don't know about your other language skills, but based on your post I'd say you should substantially improve your English language skills if you want to move to an English-speaking country or work in an international company where English is important.
