Two questions: First, I'm pretty sure I got the gist of shopping online, by using and American APO and then a courier service. (I read it on the day in the life thread and in Expat: FAQ) I am wondering if that process is difficult, expensive or relatively the same as shopping online in North America.

Second: I am an avid knitter, crocheter and sometimes cross stich. Is it easy/hard, cheap/expensive to find materials for these types of hobbies?

Depending where you are looking. You will find much of this in Santo Domingo but not much in Puerto Plata.

To order online - most shippers offer low or no shipping within the USA. We use a mail forwarder - for me it is CPS - and they give you a Miami address. So you ship to Miami. From Miami to your city (not all are available) is a specified fee. Again mine has many office in the DR. Once your items arrive, go to the office and pick them up. Here in Santo Domingo they will also deliver to your house for a small extra fee.
