is it true that carrying arms is legal in mauritius? i was told my someone who apprently stayed in mauritius for 1 year that children carry firearms with them and its perfectly legal but lot of endangerment to visitor's life.

I've never seen anyone carry a gun private. Only police officers carry weapons sporadically. Even for hunters the introduction of weapons is so difficult that they hunt here with rented gun.

I guess that confirms that you shouldn't believe everything you hear. Firearms are rather strictly controlled and there is little chance of getting shot. hasn't happened to me a single time in my 11 years here at least...

Carrying arms is illegal, unless you have a permit. It's very difficult to issue a permit as a private person for this. I knew one guy (a club owner) that carried a gun, and from what I understood he had it after he proved his life was being threatened since he used to carry on him a lot of money.
