Recording Studio in HCMC

I am planning on opening a recording studio here in VN (HCMC) to service both natives and expat musicians. Any advice? Warning? Opportunity? Idea? Help? Thanks a bunch!

If you are looking for a recording studio with great engineering skills, please contact me. I use Pro Tools 11. Thanks. Danny.

The media industry is extremely well developed here and the skills of the technicians and equipment match.

For example, HD TV standards were introduced a few years ago by VOV and they spent a couple of years refining their techniques before being promoted to the public. The public media channels are about to undergo a major change in the next couple of years.

From one camera live broadcasts 20 years ago to some of the edgy productions of today, the VNese media industry is up there with other leading countries.

I realise the technical production side has been reduced to little more than a desktop full of computers, but here, too, VN has the goods.  And there is an equipment rental industry to back them up.

So your proposal will face considerable local challenges from skilled people who speak the language. Government, too, has it's finger in the pie, as they keep an eye on political program content. For example, the government frequently gets involved when it's concept of acceptable dress and content is offended and it will exercise it's powers of censorship in many ways.

So your challenges will be many and varied. Good luck in your endeavors.

Thanks for the insight. I actually have no technical skills whatsoever in T.V or video. My special skills lie in the audio pre and post- production. I am Pro Tools 10/11 HD certified. Though I know the competition is stiff, however, I am confident I can do a better job. Thanks for taking the time to share. Danny.

Hi,
Do you own a studio right now? Are there any good studios around?
Thanks

I think you have to define 'studio'.

For example, most of today's movies, even those with custom musical tracks, are assembled and edited on desktop computerised editing suites - no more an orchestra in front of a large screen with a conductor following the movie with one eye and conducting the orchestra with another.

Similarly, a studio could be a room, even a 'booth', in a basement with a computerised mixer/editor which is used by some 'bands'. Even 'bands' members don't need to be in the same physical location during a recording with high-speed InterNet.

And, when shooting a movie, many actors are even never physically are present together thanks to electronic editors. Of course, this doesn't include porn movies!

So, as I suggested, define 'studio'.

Yes, I do own a recording studio. Please check it out (facebook: 3E recording studio. Pix only). Thanks. Danny.

Based on what Danny started, he should know what I am referring to. Should I state my requirements here? To me its better for me to know what is available because I am having similar thoughts about his idea. Thanks Jaitch for your views.

haha..dont worry about it nikkisixx (Motley Crew?). Jaitch is just being technical, and he is right. And I do know my ways in a studio. In addition, you can always come and take a look as well as listen to some of the music I have done for the natives. I am located in Q1. Let me know, and I'll give you more info as to my exact location. Thanks for your interest. Danny.

Ps. There are quite a few recording studios in HCMC. Good? As far as I know none of them know how to work Pro Tools like I do. No need to boast, but I am, probably, the only certified (U.S.A) technician in the country. I am also what you'd call an acoustician. My Studio is acoustically treated using PRD panels. I am also a songwriter with 20+ yrs of experience in both writing and recording. Is that enough info for you? Need more? let me know :).

I don't know much about studio recording, but just love music and hope to make some new friends with those singing, writing music just to hang out sometimes :)

I do have my own piano composition, which has never been recorded yet...

My wishlist is to have my own CD one day...

Thanks,

Bell

don't sweat it Bell :). Recording music is fun :), it helps if you know a little bit about the science side of it. Other than that making music, original only, please, is quite fun ;).
If you write music using the piano only, then you really dont have to wish to have a CD. You can do quite a decent job yourself if you have good ears. Put it on a sequencer, track it to audio instead of MIDI using any DAW, and off you go, straight into Itunes and all your friends can listen to it. However, if you attempt to make money off  the CD , perhaps someone like me can do a better job. My mixing room is acoustically treated to a very specific RT60. Let me know what you think. Thanks. Danny.

hey danny if you are still around I would like to keep in touch with you. I went to SAE in Nashville and we probably have the same set of ears (sort of speak). I've lived here a while but I being that sometimes the VN dont "want" you to do your own mixing that's where the main problem can lie.I will hit you up on FB.

Hello Chris. No, I am no longer in Vietnam. I came back to the U.S. about 1/2 yr ago. I find it hard to live and operate there since the mentality of the artists are way different than what I've been used to :). However, if you still want to keep in touch and discuss about music and mixing, I'd be glad to oblige. Thanks. Danny.

Hey do you still have a recording studio in Vietnam?

If your question was for dannyC, his last post was 3 years ago, and according to the last comment, he returned to the States in 2014.

He's no longer an active member of this forum.
