Well after months of planning my wife and me have landed in Ubud! At the start of two weeks adventure ending in Jakarta hopefully we a contarct signed for a new job there!,
Many thanks for all the advice from you guys that helped us transfer from singapore to Bali and through immigration! Amazing how much better experience it was than my recent trip to Los Angeles! !,
Now resting in our villa, deciding what we will get up to in beautiful Ubud over the next few days!,,

PS how much should I be paying for a local taxi and guide for Day say 9am til 4pm too tour parts of the island..
was quoted 690,000 ruipah ?

Rp400k - Rp500k or thereabouts. Even if you pay more it's still small money.

Bad idea.
You need to get an idea of local traffic before you drive on these roads.
Even if he has a valid licence, indonesian traffic will be a shock.
Always hire with driver.
