Is this enough

I am a English Professor with a Doctorate Degree and was offered a position at an institution  in Qaboos, I was wondering if 1385 Omani Rials is sufficient. Please reply as soon as possible.  My family consist of 2 adults 1 child. I would also need to send him to school. Will I be able to save and live a decent lifestyle. Housing is not included but medical and airfare is. Can I pay for school fee monthly my son is 3yrs old. Or will I have to pay all upfront. Seems like most of the schools require you do. Please help ASAP.  I also have an offer in SA paying 9000 Riyals with housing, I am guessing the Omani deal is better. I live a very simply lifestyle but want the best school for my child. Also, will my family be able to join me or will they have to wait a few months. What are the visa requirements?

Hi nlw779,

If you are looking at educating your child in an international school, then it would not be possible, with the salary being offered.

Also if no accommodation is provided by the employer, then it will become even more difficult for you to stay and save, as a family.

Schools usually take tuition fee every quarter, besides a heavy annual enrolment fee which would include the cost of uniforms, books, et al.

Unless your husband gets himself a job, he and your child may not be able to join you – not even after a few months of waiting period. Read the response of a 'legal expert' to a query from another expatriate on the same subject published just yesterday http://www.timesofoman.com/News/Article-30880.aspx

Good luck.

Thank you, my husband plans on finding a job, he is a journalist/writer/photographer. Accommodation is provided by the employer and medical along with annual airfare.

Thank you for so much valuable information.
