The other side of the Iceland postcard

Hi,

As a tourist in a foreign country, very often, we are enchanted with what we discover.

Living abroad is different. It's a rich experience but there are also some difficulties to face.

When people ask me for advice on living abroad, I then tend to say that one should also look at both sides of the postcard.

As an expat in Iceland, how would you describe the two sides of your Iceland postcard?

Thank you for sharing your experience,

Julien

on the front of the Icelandic postcard is the incredible nature, naturally. Many people also enjoy the relatively calm pace of life, and a good work-life balance.

on the other side, you've got the isolation of living on an island with a bunch of people who are very close to their families. If you're not married into the club, it can feel very lonely. Then there's also the weather. Epic wind and sideways rain can get very tiresome.

For some people who're more involved with the local politics, the current situation is not inspiring confidence. There's a big protest going on today regarding Iceland's possible withdrawal from the EU application process, for example.
