New members of the Belgium forum, introduce yourself here

I am new one in Brussels. I came here two weeks ago to learn French.
I would really like to meet some new people, make some new friends and explore this lovely country.

We are currently in South Africa and crime against whites are becoming worse and we are starting to beleive we will not be safe here much longer. We have 2 little girls (3 and 6) brought up Afrikaans. Apparently Belgium is similar to Afrikaans so they will easily pick it up. Is that correct? I am an Accountant and tax consultant, I also have my higher education diploma for high school teaching and I do show jumping at 1.30m level and that is a big sport in Belgium so I can continue my sport. My husband is in graphic designing, printing vehicle branding and wrapping, signboards and shop fitting.
Any advice/help on finding jobs, accommodation, emigrating,  visas etc will be much appreciated!

Hi,
I am Engr. Sharif Mahmud Bhuiyan, from Bangladesh wish to visit Belgium soon.

Hi MarleinGreeff! For the jobs you can check websites of Actiris and VDAB. And for the accommodation the most common are immoweb.be and vlan.be. You can check the website of the Belgian Embassy based in Africa for the visa requirements and or immigration qualifications. I hope this gives you something to work on. Good luck!
Charm :)

Thank you! Which are in Belgium is known for show jumping?

Hi all!

I'm Darren, originally from Scotland and been living here now for almost a year and a half.

Came across with my company originally for four weeks to help set up the expansion of a new store in Zaventem airport... And well... Like a lot of others end up staying!

I'm 26, definitely a bit daft, but friendly and certainly not rude. Looking for expat/Belgian for chats, ideas and learning Dutch!

Hello everyone,

I am Zarei, from Egypt, 25 years old. I will be moving to brussels 26th of August to do my master.

Looking for new friends and tips about moving to Brussels.

Nice to meet all of you! :)

sorry, which AREA is knows for Show Jumping in Belgium?

Not good to hear the tax are so high :(

The tax is high, but the general wage is the best in Europe behind Germany and France.

Thanks. We are in South Africa and considering moving to Belgium. 2 reasons: Kids are Afrikaans and will pick up on the language there. I do Show Jumping and that is a big sport in Belgium. Any idea which area has the most show jumping?

Afrikaans will be okay in the Flemish side. It shouldn't take them long to adapt the language. It doesn't necessarily mean a lot will understand, it just won't take long for them to switch.

As for horses, you will need to look up equestrian websites in Belgium. It's a pretty specialist topic.

thank you so much for your reply! :)
one last thing, which towns fall under the Flemish side?

I'm Hazel-Marie, 23, Scottish.

I'm always keen for a good night out, pint, coffee, a few travel adventure or a game of hockey/badminton.
Have a science degree and have done a lot of youth work so if those are your interests- let's grab a beer!
Also keen to learn/practice my French so if you need English help or just want to help out a poor non-native speker- gimme a message :)

If anyone needs a babysitter- I'm your girl (having done work with kids in over 10 countries!)

Cheers one and all. Have a good evening.

Hi, My name is Huw, 23, currently living in Cardiff Wales. I am a graduate with a hankering for a new environment.
My goal is to work my way through Europe.

First time on a forum, and first time properly considering moving out of the UK following graduation. Belgium seems like a great place to start. I would call myself creative and outgoing, happy as a badger in a nice bar chatting to the early hours of the morning.

I hail from technical education with a degree in sound technology. Would love to meet some people in the same boat as me, looking to traverse the EU and beyond. Any and all advice would be awesome. I'm looking to head out ASAP. Need some technical knowledge on audio (probably unlikely) I'm your man.

English is my only language (unfortunately) I am keen to learn as I go though.

I am Manfred. I have gotten admission to study Msc management at vrije Universiteit brussels Dis September. Will like to meet people when I arrive on the first of September. Am very friendly and down to earth. Hope to see u soon.

Hey everyone!
I'm Laura, 20 years old and from Australia. I'm moving to Belgium in the early days of September, setting up in Leuven. I'm always up for a chat, a drink or to go exploring around new cities. I'm looking to meet fellow expats or locals to develop some more solid connections in the country, as well as some assistance from others learning Dutch!
Feel free to send me a message! :)

Hi there :)

I am Ameera, i am a young female in her twenties who decided to move from Canada to Belgium to be with her native Belgian boyfriend. In addition to moving here for love, one way for me to be in the country was on a student visa. As such, i will be completing my Masters in Criminology at KU Leuven in Septemeber. I have arrived in the country in June, though not my first time being here it is my first time actually trying to make a life anywhere but Canada. I have had a lot of struggles, and one of the main ones is dealing with City Hall and the amount of confusion and frustration associated with my visa. I live in a very beautiful one bedroom apartment with my boyfriend, however the city we live in is mainly Dutch speaking and is quite small. I have had some struggles to meet people my own age, and to get used to the culture here, as a North American i am used to being very open and talking/meeting strangers but of course, respectfully its not viewed the same in this city or in Belgium, i feel. I had a very hard time when i first arrived here, mainly because i had no idea what culture shock was and felt it very surprising to learn after a very rough and extremely anxiety inducing month here, that that was what i was experiencing. I will say this much, that coming here as an Expat definitely does play a toll on a relationship, as the expat...if you are like me, will experience severe depression and anger and just simple frustration an unhappiness with everything. I sadly went through this and now i am slowly becoming much more used to doing very simple things, or what people are like so its no longer a shock. I am still very angry with train officials or city hall officials as it seems they can make life a lot more difficult than it really needs to be, but in due time maybe i will just accept this is just how it is. Otherwise, its very exciting to be here...i have a lot of nervousness being new to a country, and now studying in a completely new and foreign place but i hope for the best!

Hi,

So looking to meet some fellow expats which are going through similar situations, to chat, hang out and have some fun learning the language and exploring the different  cities.

feel free to message me, I hope we can be friends.

Hi,
Im Laine and will be moving to Antwerp next year and to be honest, its very daunting and nerve racking!!! The new language, the new environment, not knowing anyone -.- hope to make new friends even before coming over.

Hi every one here is sweety from pakistan. I apply for the visit visa for belgium to visit my husband who is already working there on work permit as a software engineer. But after 2 and half months of processing my visa refused.
Its unbearable. I m much disappointed.....

Hi All,

My name is Urmila and I belong to India. I recently joined my husband in Brussels. It's a lovely city, good to be here.
But my story has a sad part too. I am a Physiotherapist by profession. I have completed my Bachelor's of physiotherapy from India and have 3+ yrs of professional experience. I also scored 7 bands in IELTS and can speak English fluently. But now when I wanted to apply for academic equivalence, they say dat I can't get equivalence for my Indian degree. Without equivalence, I can't practice my profession here. I also thought of enrolling in a Masters of physiotherapy course, but there are no courses available in English in Belgium. I am not in touch with practice since last 5 months. I just love my profession and can't see my career ending. Seems like all doors are closed. Any help, advice or suggestion from you regarding what I can do next would be highly appreciated.
Nevertheless, I am currently unemployed and looking for a job. I can do any job- helper with a doctor, assistant, administration, receptionist, call centre, bartender, babysitting, etc. I am also learning French these days.
You can also write to me on my e-mail ID : [email protected]
Please do write to me. Your one advice can give me a new direction to pursue. Looking forward to any help or advice from my friends and helpful people of Belgium. Thanks a lot.

Regards,
Urmila
