Indonesian food.

As a greedy, fat slob, I have to declare a keen interest in food so I decided to start a thread on the subject.
Over time, I intend to post photos and videos of the wonderful nosh in this country.

I made this little thing back in 2011 and I hope it'll do as a thread opener.
As with most things I engage in, I have absolutely no plan and no idea what I'll post next.

Knock yourself out. :)

Babi guling!

This was the "main event" at our Christmas dinner this past December.

Hard to find outside of Bali...it would be our national dish if Bali were a nation.

That is an interesting post (but you should edit it so we don't have to click the link).
It shows how food in some areas is entirely different to food in other areas.
As I live in a mostly Muslim area, and I'm a Muslim, you're less likely to see pork product in any of my photos.
It would be interesting to see as many foods as possible from other parts of Indonesia.

One of my favourite Indonesian foods is satay, chicken being the best.
This is is in a shopping centre in Alam Sutara, Tangerang.
Basically, it's bit of meat on sticks, BBQed over a charcoal flame and enjoyed, commonly with rice.
The quality varies a lot but this one is excellent.

I haven't been to a Padang place since I left Purwokerto.
I must correct that error.

Nasi padang...my favourite food. Sate padang....horrible  :|

You haven't try the Soups and alikes from Sulawesi Island.

These folks and their foods can be found in Kelapa Gading Area in North-East Jakarta

Hmmm...my wife's dad from Sulawesi but not really tried it much. He says the ikan bakar with the dabu-dabu sambal is really delicious.

Horse meat is common in Jogjakarta, usually as sate.

Um....I used to work in Balikpapan about 30 years ago. But didn't really try many of the local delicacies. Mostly ate steak and chips!!!

Indonesian food is varied. Even in the cities, many people are only one or two steps away from their village backgrounds and eating habits.

I also love chicken sate but it has to be cooked over charcoal otherwise it just isn't sate.

Yes it's a delicious food with submarine shapes/kapal selam made from fish cakes and an egg inside I guess. i think it's from Palembang in Sumatra.

I passed that market yesterday but haven't been in for quite a while.
The best Padang restaurants I've found were both in Purwokerto.
Excellent places.

Hey, this happens to be my hub's favorite stall when we do morning shopping!  He enjoys nasi and rendang with lots of its sauce, costs only 17K IDR.  Next time if you see a tall bule and petite Indonesian lady sit and enjoying their meals, that must be us!

The best tempe is in Wonosobo, but you have to ask for tempe kamul (Spelling?)
It's basically like mendoan, but thinner and crispier.
The menuoan tends to be a bit greasy for my tastes.
Whilst in Wonosobo, try mie onklok (Shaken noodles) - wonderful.
The best restaurant is on the road to Purwokerto, about 1km from town, on the left. Everyone knows it. It's named, Mie onklok.
A must for me when I visit is a wander into Mr, Bakar; the roasted chicken is absolutely amazing - probably the best in Indonesia.

You sounds know a lot about Purwokerto. Are you living there..? I went there few times as my brother in law's family owns Jatiwinangun Hospital.
However thanks for the info, next time I go there again I will try Mr Bakar and Mie Onklok..Never tried it before :)
