National Guard Hospital in Dammam Compound

Hi, is there anyone on this forum who knows the National Guard Compound in Dammam?  I am trying to find out about this compound as I am to be there by July1st, and have not been told exactly about this yet, as I am waiting for my visa.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thank you
cynthia e

sent you a private message. I answered one of my questions already. But Are you travelling on a family visa or your own? I think the hospital grounds themselves have housing for "singles" although the word "compound" throws me. Like the "DQ" is diplomatic quarters although it means a lot more than that. Anyhow,  Alliecat may know.

Thank you,
I am travelling single, and was told there is a compound or housing complex, however, details are pretty sketchy at the moment as I am waiting for visa.

Cynthia, where are you coming from?

Housing for nurses varies widely from hospital to hospital in the country.

I've known hospitals who only let their Filipina nurses off the premises twice a month for shopping, and then only a few hours at a time.  A virtual prison.

And there are places like Dammam/Khobar where I see Filipina nurses that are walking together on the streets without escorts.

I understand that Western nurses are generally given better quarters than nurses from less-developed countries.

I don't know if you would be in the same compound as the SANG advisors, but if so...sounds good.  Check out this link: http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/ … dammam.htm

Hi MisterStretch,
Thanks for your reply,  I am coming from Toronto Canada, and I hope I will not be in a prison like setting.  That would take all the fun out of being in a new culture and now I am concerned.  At the present time, I have no address but should have within a week.  I hope all goes well, and I will be at the National Guard Hosp in Damman.

Hi Cynthia,

My daughter-in-law has been working as a nurse in Al Khobar. If you'd like I can ask her if she knew any nurses from National Guard Hospital and get you some information.

Cheers
Arlette

Thank you Arlette,
I would like that very much, all the info I can get is so helpful.  Cheers, Cynthia

Yes, by all means, post the address of the hospital and compound...we'll scope it out for you.

Addresses don't mean alot in this part of the world.  A compound name will be enough for you to let you know.

Thanks alot MisterStretch, I am very grateful.

Hi Cynthia,

This is what she told me about National Guard Hospital in general:

"They have good contract for Filipinos.. and of course it escalates according to nationality again.
Benefits are good too, and the working conditions it depends on where is the hospital too, 'cause some National Guards are already old and others are just newly constructed and what level of specialty they have.
I did'nt have the chance to see their compounds but I'm sure its equipped with the same facilities like any other compounds. I saw some pictures of my friends who's working there in a single acomodation, they have studio type. As I've known they have curfew hours but I'm not sure with the family contracts."

So unfortunately I don't have antything more to tell you!

Arlette

Thanks so much Arlette, so much appreciated.

Curfews?

It never ceases to amaze me that Saudis feel they have the moral right to justify controlling the lives of others.

I agree MisterStretch,
Curfews, my God, Im too old for curfews, LOL.  I have years of experience in life.  I hope this wont apply to me.  But, I will find out from the agency I am using.

I think there are no curfew hours for foreigners here. the environment here is very safe. this curfew maybe applied by compound management because some of western are usually afraid to leave there housing. The saudies are not controling others lives and they don't want.
you can see the other asian nationalities they are used to staying up to morning out of their houses in opening area. I think your judgment was not correct.
enjoy the place as it is.

thank you

Thanks Methanol,
You are correct, I have no curfew here.  It is a great place, the people are so friendly.  And the guards at the gates, so nice and friendly too.

You are correct, I have no curfew here.

Consider yourself lucky--because, believe it or not, I have a curfew!!

As I recall, it's midnight during the week and 1AM on weekends. This applies only to single females and married females who are out without their husbands.

Now, brace yourself for the irony:

If I miss the curfew, it means I won't be allowed into the compound and I have basically 'outted' myself by even trying.  So the only alternative is to stay out ALL NIGHT.  When you return the next day, they can only assume that you'd gone out that morning shopping or whatever.

I think this policy is shooting yourself in the foot, Saudi style,  but there ya go!

Alliecat,
thank you for your explanation but when I said that, it was not justification for the government to control the others lives but what I mean if the compound policy like this that is not means our people style to control women leaving or staying. If you are not satisfy, you can have another house out of compounds.

really I sympathize with you and I hope you enjoying your life here in saudi arabia.

our women here can stay outdoors until the morning but we didn't used to have like this in our community.again this is not justification for government to curfew for who is not believe in our system.
