Translator needed for my wedding

Hello

I am currently due to get married on November 7th at my local cartório, the problem I face is that my level of Portuguese is not up to the standard required by my cartório to allow me to get married.

Can anyone help me find a translator that would be able to help me with this problem please?

Thank you

Hi Sean,

It's not a translator that you need, but rather an interpreter. A translator works with texts and documents, it's an interpreter that works with the spoken language.

In what bairro of São Paulo and what Cartório is your wedding going to take place. I have a few contacts in São Paulo that might be able to help you out. I have no idea how much they will charge for their service. If you let me know the information I'll contact them and find out if they're availiable and what the charge would be.

If I were still residing in São Paulo I would have been glad to do it myself, but I'm now living in Macaé - RJ

Sean,

When I married in Manaus, Amazonas I required an interpreter too. However, the Cartorio in Manaus required a "Public Sworn Translator" to perform the translation. I would check with them if they require the same considering the waiting period you are already going through to get married.

The cost was R$150,00. Obviously the price may be different.

Hello wjwoodward

Thank you for your reply, I live in Ipiranga and the address of the cartório 18th Oficial de RCPN. Subdistrito Ipiranga, Comarca da Capital, Rua Bom Pastor 499, São Paulo  Cep 04203-030.

I would greatly appreciate any help you could provide.

Hi Sean,

If the cartório DOESN'T require the interpreter be a "tradutor juramentado" then let me know and I'll see if my friend can help you. If they also require a sworn translator then you'll find them through a Google search of "tradutor juramentado em sao paulo".

PS.  Please contact the cartório as soon as possible and let me know. My friend has just responded that he would be available for that date and is waiting further information. He is not a tradutor juramentado hoewever.

Hello

I found a person to carry out the interpretation.

Thank you all for your help.

Ok, thanks for letting me know. Just make sure the person meets any requirements of the cartório. You don't want to find out at the last moment that they don't and have the wedding put off.
