Dentistry in Namibia

Does anyone maybe know a dentist in Namibia who emigrated from Europe and already went through the whole process of registering in Namibia and might help us on finding information on what the admission exam entails and how it could be prepared for?

Hi NLNAM,

Welcome to Expat-Blog :)

Thank you

Thanks Maximilien!

In the meanwhile we've spoken to Mrs. van Zyl at the Health Professions Councils of Namibia about the exam that  dentists immigrating to Namibia have to take. She was really friendly and helpful! Apparently the exam is done orally. Once you've made contact and registered, they send an invitation, which also states the subjects that are examined. It is a learning experience for the applicant as well; case studies are shown on PowerPoint and first they ask the candidate what he/she would do in this case. Then they explain how they go about it in Namibia. So it's also a discussion on the differences between the approaches of the countries people come from and Namibian Dentistry.
The fee for registration at the HPCNAM is 2600 Namibian dollars. You need to prove that you are competent in English (by for instance enrolling for an Internet course and completing the exam successfully).
Naturally, all diplomas must be translated into English (by a Namibian translator or the original issuing institute).

We've also been to the Namibian Embassy in Brussels yesterday. What a lovely experience! They even brought us a tray with coffee and biscuits!! And good biscuits :) I'm starting to believe those from whom I've heard that Namibians are genuinely friendly people. We can't wait to move there.
