In my personal opinion, the family life is pretty neat for an average family, you have places of worship, a good local community and various malls and department stores sprinkled within short distances of each other.

Probably Oman isn't as illustrious as its cousin from across the border (Dubai). If you prefer a nice of coffee over the weekend, you do have most international brands all over the place.

However, if your one of the outdoor kinds, who enjoys wadi bashing, rock climbing, snorkeling etc (or) even a long drive to the interiors etc., you will certainly love it here....

There are some parks / ice-rinks / sports centers for kids related activities.
