Places to visit in Constantine

Hi,

For the ones living in Constantine, what would you suggest to discover the region?

When you have friends or family visiting you, where do you go with them? What are the must-see places in Constantine, the tourist sites?

How to visit the region in an original way? Any unusual or unknown place to recommend?

What would you suggest for a couple of days of for a week of holidays in Constantine?

Thank you in advance for participating ;)

Julie

Hi there!
As the city is in a huge rehabilitation some great sites are closed for construction.but there are lots of other places to visit.
First of all, constantine is famous for its suspended bridges,th efirs and most famous one is "sidi m'cid suspended bridge" its in a unique place(i will attach a general view on the region) near by the bridge is a cable cabines wich are an unforgettable experience for the first time because cross the canion over a huge natural arch, thes cable cabines(or telepherique) stops in front of the biggest hospital of the region(with great architecture) from wher you can visit the Monument-aux-morts monument built for the memory of World War martyrs, from there its a breath taking view on the old city, neighbouring villages and the mountains of the city.after that you can cross again the bridge towards the old ottoman city "the casbah" wich includes historic buildings with great archtecture, great mosques, and the unesco site of "ahled-bey palace" which is the residency of the last Bey(or gouverner) of constantine dating from 1700.down this old buildings are some good shops for traditional princesses dress "guendora" and traditional jewellery you shouldn't miss visiting this shops ;) .
Second area is the the old arabian city or the "swika" its mainly under construction so you can visit the nearby area, wich includes the Mellah-Sliman bridge,sidi-rached bridge(wich is the biggest stone bridge in the world) and the elkantara-bridge . those three bridges are the only places where you can walk aver birds(litteraly, birds and eagles fly under you to there shelters ) the scenery under you is breath taking,Ith off-the-kliff old houses(like you would see on a fantasy movie) too bad constantine is not famous.
Outside the bridges' area, you can visit museum cirta for a good prehistoric collection, elkhalifa house for cultural events and concerts, the regional theatre(the novotel and ibis hotels are near-by) .
For restaurants, there are plenty of choices,if you want a tradition quick meal you can go to swika,rabin-chriff or the rahba(those are mainly frequented by men due to men clothes commerce concentrated in teh area),fast foods are every where, with some good oriental chawarma and bbq.
For a family meal, there is some great restaurants like "dar diaf" "tiddis" "elbik" in the city center, but the best are in surrounded neighbouhoods, like in Sidi-Mebrouk,lonama,elkhroub where you can enjoy full family meal, algerian BBQ,ice cream, traditional decert and a great variety of modern restaurants.
