It looks like SENECYT no longer provides the search tool on their website to determine whether oneŽs college is on the list of accepted schools.

I wonder if they are rethinking their approach on the professional visas?

I've got my 9-V approved...
It's that simple - you have to go to SENESCYT with your appostiled and translated copy of diplom, wait for about 1-1.5 month, got you diplom entered to their system.
Then just print the web page with data of your diplom from SENESCYT web site.
And with other docs go to "extranjeria" to obtain your 9-V

I am also working toward getting my Professional Visa and I have a few questions please:

1. Has anyone been able to get their diploma translated and notarized HERE versus my having to send it back to the states to be translated and apostiled by the Ecuadorian Embassy? I do have my original which is notarized and apostiled.

2. Once approved for Professional Visa - how long do they give you?

If the diploma is in English, you do not need it translated. It will need to be apostilled in the state that it was issued though. Once it is apostilled, you will need to make a copy and have it notarized in Ecuador. They will notarize the copy and Senesyct will keep the copy. 
(I just went through this process twice-  once for my BA, which was on the list, and a 2nd time for my doctorate, which was not on the list (the list of universities).

The Secretary of State does the apostille (not the Ecuadorian Embassy).
