Moving to Romania (shipping items)

Hey all!

I am moving to Romania on 12th July!

I have these items to send:

iMac
Printer (with inks)
Speakers / Amp
Telescope (Didn't see the point in selling it)
Photography Studio Equipment
Various cables / peripherals

I've managed to get them into 2 boxes

Box 1 is: 25kg L:59cm x W:40cm x H:57cm
Box 2 is: 22kg L:40cm x W:27cm x H:81cm

I've checked out a few websites but I'm interested to learn if anyone has sent items to Romania from the UK before (or in fact from other countries) as this seems to be the ONLY way to get them there.

I am on a limited time scale as you can probably imagine and would appreciate ANY advice that you can give me.. or suggestions for services / companies that would be prepared to move these items at a low cost. (Under £100 if Possible)

Many MANY thanks to anyone who gets back to me.

Aaron Roberts

Hiya,
Try parcelbroker.co.uk.
Worked with them twice and went very well.

Cheers, Charles

Hi Aaron,

If you haven't already booked your flight, you could look at car sharing with someone and get your stuff transported cheaply (as well as yourself). For example, I saw one guy on one site driving back to Constanta from Wales offering seats for about 150 quid. Someone like that would probably be able to stop in Bristol and again in Targu Mures (you're moving there, right?). I might not feel comfortable letting the boxes travel alone though, considering their apparent high value.

Mike

Hi Mike!

I have indeed already booked my flight.

Car sharing wasn't something I thought about even before as it would be SUCH a long journey.

But thanks for the suggestion :)

Hi aaronlroberts,

Have you think about container sharing? Feel to post an advert in the Classified in Romania, Community/Container Sharing this might help.

Thank you,

David.

Hi,i can help you with some phone numbers for romanian companies who transport goods, packages and others stuff from London to Romania.Usually they charge you 1 pds/kg ,so if your boxes are around 80 kg you will pay 80 pds.The problem is that where you want to send them in romania someone must be there to take them.My daughter live in London, she send me packages to me with them and is not so much .Anyway,if you need help just write me and i will trie to help you.Good luck and welcome to Romania!

Thanks a lot for the response.. unfortunately, I'd have to get them to London first and then to Romania (I'm based in Bristol which is the South West of England)

It would cost a fair amount to get it to London and then out to Romania.

Hi there, did you try the link I posted with the parcel brokers?
Not sure if it's going to be under 100 quid but might be worth a try.

cheers, Charles

Aaron have you thought of calling your Embassy and asking them the necessary questions?  I would hope that whatever info they will give you it will be more accurate and more pertinent since you are also of the same culture!

Shipping and logistics are not within the scope of interest or responsibility of a diplomatic mission.

Hi Aaron,

Yes, Fan courier is the cheapest!
You can also ask UPS or or TNT!

Good luck!

i want to send 2 carpets and 3 boxes to Brasov Romania

From uk you can use eastlines.ro - it is about 1£/kg, and evereone that used them (including me) found them very reliable

I did risk asking my parents to send me my printer from Lithuania to Romania by post, since this is the cheapest way of sending anything. The printer was old, so I wasn't really worried about it, and it worked fine, nothing was damaged. My parents are sending me stuff (including quite fragile stuff) regularly via the post office, I've never had any problems with it, and considering a low price (around 20 euro each time for a package of several kg), the packages arrive very fast (3-5 work days) and are brought to your door. However, in case of expensive equipment, I would always recommend paying more to a specialised carrier (e.g. Atlassib, as proposed).
