Moving Soon!

Hey guys!

A few months ago, I wrote a post stating that I had recieved an offer to work at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and was considering whether to take the offer and about general life in Riyadh.

A few months on from that, I accepted the offer, completed my medicals, sent all my paperwork off and have my passport with me, with my travel visa in and ready to travel. Furthermore, my wife, has accepted an offer to work for a school in Riyadh and am waiting for her visa to be completed. We shall hopefully be travelling around the end of July. So, hopefully, in a few weeks we shall be there! :)

I have a few questions that I'd hope, everyone who has moved over, can help me with. They're the basic questions you may of had when a lot of you were getting ready to move..

1) What essentials do you need to take with you?

2) Regarding accomodation, what can you expect to be in your accomodation? for example, cutlery, crockery..etc

Hope to hear from you guys soon!

Further to my previous post, is it possible that an employer from KSA send expat employees to another country to obtain a work visa? My wife has been told to go to Bahrain and do the medical there and then obtain the work visa there..

I cannot really answer the first two questions... Except in my own personal experience. You don't need to bring anything specifically. We brought a folding playpen for our youngest as we were told the compound we are at wouldn't have one. So, it is stuff like that you bring.

Our compound provided us with basic bedding, towels, dishes, silverwear, and pots/pans. But, as I said, I cannot speak for all compounds/companies.

As for it being normal to be sent to another country By the company I do not know. But my entire family applied for and got our visas in a country we are not native to so it is possible to do it. She will have to get everything stamped by Bahrain offcials and then the Saudi embassy in Bahrain, same process as your home only in a different place.

Good luck!

Hi,
As Xenolol said, You don't really need to bring anything specific with you, by your first holidays  ,you would had known the things you have being missing from your country and then you can bring them back with you.

Different compounds provide different level of furniture's/ equipping of their premises, so you either email them inquiring about it or wait till you are here and see what you will be needing..

Yes you can apply from a different country, A German friend of mine got his visa from Washington DC and he wasn't a resident in the US at the time.

Thanks Xenolol and Ahmadaq.. We are excited yet nervous and just want to make sure we don't forget anything and obviously want to hear from other expats' experiences..
