How is the national health insurance system here in Ecuador? With the leftist government, I would imagine they have (or are setting up) some type of universal health insurance, no? Are expat residents covered under this system?

PS: A quick google also shows up this private health insurance plan for those in Cuenca: Coopera Medical Insurance.
Anyone know of something similiar in Quito?
Coopera is a cooperative that offers savings accounts, loans as a regular bank but also has restaurants, grocery stores and offers basic medical services for their clients.
I doubt it will be one like this in Quito.
