Can anyone advise on getting money back to the UK from KSA. My family will be remaining in Uk and I wondered how difficult it is to transfer money back

you have western union all over the place. and other similar services.

Try using some bank because Western Union is expensive. Bank charges are very nominal and money will go directly in their account in UK.
You can try "Tahweel AlRajahi" or "Samba SpeedCash"

Just note that you need an Iqama to transfer any money from here.
