Hi! I have a 5 month old baby and have been offered a position in Zambia. I am from South Africa and dont know much about the whole Malaria story and if it is wise to even consider a move to a Malaria area with a small infant. Anybody living there that could enlighten me it would be on Lake Kariba?

I sit with the same Dilema, I am looking at moving to Kitwe, and my Children are 2 and 6 years old. I have read on the net that 50% of all malaria deaths in Zambia are kids under the age of 5 years old. This is scarry facts. It seems however that the majority of these cases are people from rural areas, and they do not really know what they are dealing with, and take no precautions. I am of the opinion that if you are really carefull, you can eliminate the risk.
But I must say, the Malaria thing will be deciding factor whether I go or not, especialy because my kids are still so small.

Did you guys ever move to Zambia? Am in the same position considering a move with an 8 month old to Lusaka.
