Cost of living for an American family in Sierra Leone

I have been looking at the blogs for Sierra Leone but I cannot find information on cost of living.  We are a family that may be moving from the US to Sierra Leone probably to the West area close to Freetown.  Is it better to live outside of Freetown?  How much is it to rent a 3 bedroom house or flat?

I am Portuguese and I will go to Sierra Leone with my family to the West area.
At this moment house prices can go from 3.000 to 10.000USD / month.
It's important to check if it has water, energy (generator)and good living conditions.
Then the cost of life for a family, like mine, 2 kids, will be 2.000USD/month, without school for the children.
