Job agencies...

Hi Albert,

welcome to the forum.

Generally speaking it is very difficult to secure work before actually having relocated to Malta.

In your case, unless you have an EU or Maltese citizenship, it will be even more difficult as you will be subject to getting a work permit.

If you are entitled to Maltese citizenship I would recommend that you apply for it before you make the move to Malta.

Otherwise there are not that many hospitals in Malta. You should just try sending an e-mail to the HR departments or giving them a call. But better when you are actually in Malta. Compare Malta to Houston size-wise and you know what you can expect .

Cheers
Ricky

Thanks Ricky.
I do have a EU Maltese passport and  would have no issue with leaving Houston for Malta. I know if would have to register as a resident,, ID  card, etc. an employer would not have to do any special filing for me as I am with the passport and citizen of Malta.

I figured it always best to be living in the country in which I want to work. I was hoping to find out the job market for healthcare an d hospital in my profession before even considering moving and no job market.

Best wishes,
Albert

Hi!

I'm new here in Malta.I would like to know how does the job hiring works here.I'm education graduate with years of experience.

I would like to know also if there is any tuturial center where I can apply.

Regards,

Jacky

Thread is not new but one thing job seekers need to know, that recruitment agencies often just mine CVs.  i.e. they'll claim to have a job that might suit you. but it's either non existant or they just copy job ads from other sites.

Then they'll keep calling or emailing you based upon one keyword in your CV - probably out of context as well.

Guess it's a numbers games - the more CVs they have, the more likely they'll land someone a job and get their comission.

I'm basing this on personal experience in Malta over the last 7 years (I've actually seen an ad placed by an agency that wasn't even authorised to recruit for that company - the ad was removed shortly after I quizzed the agent whowas responsible for it).

Not saying that every ad is fake, but there are are more than one might think.

I think this is true for most countries.

For actual jobs that do exist try ETC website - http://www.etc.gov.mt/Index.aspx

Good luck but most of all remember that without your ID card you can't do anything .....!

Since when was an ID card essential to obtaining employment? Can you quote the relevant articles please?

Never said you did but it does make life easier.... X

You wrote and I quote 'most of all remember that without your ID card you can't do anything .....!'

That is very misleading is it not? The issue being someone may take that as fact and be disappointed and put off in their plans. It would be useful if you were to edit that, please?

Anyways, Happy Christmas!  :)

Ok from my experience of getting a job out here is that having an id card made getting registered, having a bank account, getting paid legally, getting a social security number and cheaper bus fares, a lot quicker and easier, that is personal opinion and does not represent what regulation is in place.

The situation in Malta is kind of special though. Unfortunately, elaborating would mean naming companies or individuals both in a negative and positive way. So I'll have leave my statement standing as is.

ETC can't check every ad, so even here caution and common sense needs to be applied.

The ID card used to make things easier. However, unlike the old ones for which you basically just needed a local mailing address, your own valid passport, and the ability to apply for it and pick up the card in person, don't you need a job to be able to apply for a current Maltese ID (the eResidence card for expats)?

If a member of EU State, no, you do not need to have a job for e-residence card.

And under which category do you place non-Maltese person living abroad or just having arrived in Malta and looking for work?

I don't know if you are being serious (is this a wind up?) but it depends upon their nationality!
If you are German then you are a resident of an EU State moving to another EU State, therefore you have the right to reside and look for work.

Have you been here for 7 years and not applied?
(According to one of your posts you have.)
It's a legal requirement to do so.

Errrm - it's about what you need to have to apply for an ID card and not about your rights and obligations as an EU national.

In case you missed it, the topic of the ID was brought up in relation to the fact that having one as soon as possible, made life easier.

And u shuld no - vee germans no ze ruls. Jawohl.

I was just answering your questions!!!!

A little bit strange and uncleared situation for me about Maltese ID Card for foreigners especially from EU country. Basically EU nationals have right to stay for 6 month and look for a job. Anyway there is no form adopted for jobseeker. It would better to have ID card for example to open bank account easy. So How can I apply for this ID card if I am just looking for a job. It seams like EU citizen has right for this card but there is no special form for it. This situation really confused me.

Hi darkspider,

Maltese ID cards are not issued to foreigners anymore. I presume you are talking about the e-residence card. After residing in Malta for more than 3 months you have to register yourself as resident and you will receive the new e-residence card but you can also apply earlier if you are going to stay.

For this you will have to show that you are either looking for work, have work or don't need to work if you economically self-sufficient. And you will have to have health insurance coverage in Malta either through paying NI contributions if you have a job or through private health insurance.

You can register yourself at the state job agency (ETC) with your passport as job seeking or you can find yourself a job with your passport.

Cheers
Ricky

Hi Ricky. Thank you for clear answer.  :)  Of course I told about e-residence. I think I will register at ETC.

I would avoid the following timewasters, data grabbers and blaggers:

•    SpotOn Connections and their sidekick Betting Connections
•    Castille Resources
•    Archer Recruitment
•    People & Co.

must say i totally disagree with betting connections. they were very professional, honest, friendly and fair in a way that they told immediately if a better opportunity had come up even though i already had a process quite far. maybe it was just good luck that the recruiter in question was good but anyways, a positive vote for them.

Hi, just want to make sure if I have this correct...
To get an E resident card you show your passport and proof your looking for work (by registering the etc website with passport) I tried to register with that already but was asking for my ID number which I don't have yet?)
How do I prove healthcare?
Thanks

Hi to all  :)

im looking for season job in malta i have working pappiers and i kan speack arabic, french ,english ,german , swedish and bit italians

i dont have problems to work at nightlife

where kan i find a job please?

greets

It is highly unlikely to find a season job before you arrive in Malta.

Just walk the streets in the touristic areas. Jobs are usually advertised in the windows of establishments seeking to employ.

Make sure your work permit covers Malta.

Ricky

thanks  man , :) and yes i have a work permit thats cover malta as well

Anybody have any idea how long the Maltese job process takes. I have applied for several IT positions. I did have one positive phone call back from Pentasia recruitment fairly instantly after one of my applications. The rest haven't even acknowledged my application. I am confident I have a decent, well laid out CV.
Is this just "the Maltese way" ?

I am a recent college graduate. I am still located in Ireland, I'm guessing this could be going against me, I have stated in my application my plan is to relocate to Malta in July. I may have to go earlier and be on the ground if it helps speed things up. Ideally I would like to have something before moving over my partner and children.

Very slow though from the major IT recruitment players.

They are missing out on a great candidate :)

I was fortunate to be in a position to leave my job in HK and come to Malta to look for work. Only one agency replied to my emails and voice mails I left when I was in HK so it matches your experience, it was Pentasia too.

Being in Malta seems to be key but then the agencies here aren't quite as proactive as ones I've used in UK & HK. As others have mentioned they take your data and you have to constantly follow up with them, tell them about jobs other agents have posted etc, this maybe due to the relatively small work force. Maybe it was my CV and experience but either way I'm working in Malta and loving the change in pace from HK.

I found that LinkedIn and the Sunday paper (Times of Malta) were the best bet. For LinkedIn join the Malta job seekers group, at least that way you can get a daily summary of what the agencies post.

Hey MKer, thanks for your reply. Bizarre, its a wonder how they make money at all :)

Hi,

At this moment I am also looking for a job in Malta. Even though some advertise with relocation possibilities they do not respond to my e-mails.

I would like to have a job before coming over as I don't have a lot of savings. I just don't feel to comfortable to go to Malta without knowing to get a job within a couple of weeks.

Does anyone know if I could get a job quickly if I do come over? I am looking for customer support work and speak Dutch as native language and near fluent English.

Also, does anyone know what wage I can expect as a customer service agent?

Thanks in advance

Hi Tberg,

being a Dutch native speaker it should be possible to find a job with one of the gaming companies but no one can give you a guarantee.

Response to e-mails in Malta is as slow as the country works -)))

The wage you can expect is around 1500  before taxes and social security.

Cheers
Ricky

What's the pay like for security officers? And is there any jobs for security?

Hi,

there are many jobs for security officers around Malta as every bigger store, banks and ,in Paceville, bar has one or more.

From my perception most security guards in banks are Maltese and former police officers, those working at stores like Lidl are Maltese speaking and those working in Paceville as 'bouncers' are often from Eastern Europe. I think the level of pay might not be the best but then I'm not sure about the comparison in the UK.

Cheers
Ricky

Hired security officers are 90% Maltese nationals due to langauge necessities of speaking Maltese.
