Where should I live in Paris... Please help!

Please help… I'm moving to Paris in about 4/6 weeks time but do not know the city at all.

My job will be based just outside Paris in Viry-Chatillon so I’m looking at living in south Paris (13th/14th) or surrounding suburbs and driving to work.

At the moment I live in London so I’m used to a busy city life. Ideally in Paris I would like to be near somewhere lively, but I definitely need some chill out places, good cafes etc... and a park would be amazing! I’m happy to live slightly out of the city so long as there are great transport links.

Also, as I’m new to the city I was thinking about going into a shared house/apartment. Is this something done a lot in Paris? I thought it would be a good way to meet people and cut down on the cost of living a bit.

Thanks for reading my post and any help and advice would be really appreciated!

I'm afraid, I've only lived in Paris in the city.  I always live on the 'Left Bank' near the Sorbonne university.  It's the type of place you'd like.

However, if you have to live in a suburb, why don't you check the Paris newspapers on the Internet.  It might be an idea to stay in a youth hotel at first just to see the place.  A lot of workers live in the suburbs and commute in and the trains seem very good.  At least, they always seem to be on time.  One thing about the trains, you have to get off quickly at your stop as they don't stop for long.  I learnt that the hard way.

You could also check with the French Embassy Commercial section or their Tourism section.  They would be able to help you with information about the location where you want to live.
