Thinking of moving to Germany in a couple of years
I am thinking of moving to Germany in a couple of years to retire. Anyone have any suggestions on buying a small detached house or flat? I probably would only need a 1 bedroom, 1bath say around 600-900 square feet of floorspace. I would prefer detached with a small yard. I am thinking about Bavaria or Baden-Wurttemberg but I am not set on an area yet. I am now just starting my research, so I will have many questions I am sure. I will be retiring from a civil service job on disability and not planning to work any further. Is getting a residence visa an issue if you are not planning to work?

Re: Thinking of moving to Germany in a couple of years
OK, what exactly would be the question about the flat / appartment?
The costs?
Do you want to buy or rent?
Do you speak any German yet?
If so, you might want to look at Immobilienscout to get an idea for the prices.
You might even find your way around with not so much english.
Regarding you Visa inquiry, you might want to have a look at the German federal office site.
You should be able to find Infos there, or be able to contact them to help you out.
Best wishes,
Nicole

Thank you for the info. I am not sure about renting or owning, I would rather buy a small house if I can afford to but, I would rent if I cannot afford to buy.

Bavaria is one of the most expensive counties in Germany, but you might be lucky, if you don't want to get close to a major city.
