Any Kindle Users here?

Any Kindle addicts here?

Why the experience is said to be so different? I read a review saying that these devices must/cannot be comapred to tablets coz Kindles are much better. I'm working on the 'why-not?'. Especially when the tablets come bundled with so much better hardware/software etc (and by the way, one of the Apps is 'kindle').

Most of Kindles will cost just a fraction of a tablet price. Can price be the only considerable factor; or am I missing something?

Re: Any Kindle Users here?

I have 2 Kindles in my family. A basic one here with me in KSA and my Wife has the 3G keyboard version in the UK. I have no experience of the Touch or Fire (or any other model).

I read mine every day and it is very good and can store thousands of books. We have never used the functionality of the 3G model back in the UK!

I have an Apple Ipod (similar to the iphone, but no phone functionality) and that has far more capability than the Kindle and whilst I dont have a tablet, i know that the functionality is there or there abouts with an Ipad/Ipod - and I can get a reader for the Ipod and read books with it, as you say. I can listen to the radio, go on the internet, play games, read and send emails, etc. etc. etc. on the Ipod, but then again there is a significant price difference.

However, the Kindle, as a ebook reader, I'm very impressed and the quality of the reading and the print is good, and even better at night with a small add on book light - you can buy a Kindle cover with an integrated light around GPB 40 (240 SAR). I bought a cover (without a light) in the UK for about GBP 10 and have just bought a book light in Jubail for 35 SAR (around that price - can't remember exactly).

I download most of my books and copy them directly to the Kindle via a USB lead. I also use a software called Calibre which is an ebook management tool - you can also convert between different ebook formats. Amazon, of course, prefer you to buy the books from them!

The downside on kindles, is that my Father and Sister in the UK both have them and between them have had 3 break down whilst in warranty - I've only had ours for around 6 months, so I'm hoping they don't go the same way!!

Re: Any Kindle Users here?

Kindle does what it does very well.
Read books in almost any condition with minimal power use

A tablet does the same, but not as well.
I prefer kindle, but I use my iPad more
