We are not in marriage business: Haia

JEDDAH: ARAB NEWS
Friday 22 June 2012

The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (Haia) has denied media reports that it would marry any man to the woman he is caught in khulwa (illegal seclusion).
“These reports are totally false and completely untrue,” spokesman of the Haia Abdul Mohsen Al-Qifari said in statements published Friday by local daily Al-Madinah.
The reports had alleged that a man caught in khulwa with woman would be asked to pay a paltry dowry of SR 1,000 as punishment to the woman for making herself cheap.
“There are no directives from the Haia to this effect. All that was said in this regard was not more than fabricated allegations,” the spokesman said adding that the Haia was not in the marriage business. The reports said men who would be made to marry women who were in khulwa with him would not be allowed to divorce her for two years.
“If he did, he would be imprisoned for 10 years and whipped a 1,000 lashes every month,” the social media reports claimed. They said the woman would not have the right to demand a separate accommodation.
They also said the man could arrange a room for her in the family house and added that married women caught in khulwa would not be covered and their husbands would be informed of the incident. “People who circulate such reports have no knowledge of the rules and regulations of the Kingdom. The Haia is not a marriage official and has other duties to look after,” the spokesman explained.
He said when Haia catches a couple in an illegal seclusion, it turns them over to police.

They should blame it on the weather, TLL... big_smile

Though Arabnews do sometimes posts some 'untrue' stories in the past...have you read about the visa issues? (that there will be no more restrictions in the profession in the iqama of an expat to sponsor their families)...I have seen a huge crowd flocks the ministry the day after...it turned out that it was not true...!
