Need advice on living and working in Lyon, France!

Hi,
       I'm a American living in Texas.  I have a girlfriend living in Lyon.  We've been trying to find a way for me to come over to live and work there.  It looks pretty bleak so far, short of marriage.  I've been to France twice and I know some French.  Could anyone please give me some advice on what I should do or look into?  Im getting desperate!
