Plan for the future? Would like some advice :)

Hello.  I am currently a student in California, USA.  I would like to eventually move to Iceland for a wide array of reasons.

I am able to get EU citizenship if that would help the process.

As for the language, I have looked and it seems difficult to find a teacher around my area.  Any advice?

What else can I do to make my hopes of immigrating more successful?  I am going to school for chemistry and hopefully medicine, afterwards.  I would hope that would be employable in Iceland.

With so much school ahead of me, I have time to fulfill whatever will make my transition smoothest.

Thank you!

Hi timothy,
I lived in upstate NY (near VT) and I moved here almost 2 months ago. The language is indeed very difficult and it is hard to get the pronunciation correct without native speakers to help. There is a site called livemocha.com which can help with some of the basics. I also got a book/CD combo that I thought was pretty good. It's called Beginner's Icelandic and is by Helga Hilmisdottir & Jacek Kozlowski. I am planning on taking a university course in the fall as I think this is the only way to get a real handle on it. When you're here, you can ask people; they are always willing to help when they know you are really trying. Bless!

EU citizenship definitely helps if you can get it since Iceland is part of EEA. You won't need a work visa then (although you still have to prove you're self-supporting).

as for the language, one good way to learn remotely is via the university of Iceland's online Icelandic course. They've got two levels and back before I moved I used it a bunch and found that I'd actually learned quite a bit by the time I arrived.

that's here: https://icelandic.hi.is/
