Driving Hazard and Tips to avoid
You got to be very careful if you are commuting daily between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. 80% drivers are levelheaded drivers considering other co-commuters while driving, whereas balance 20% are crazy, they think they are all alone on the highway criss-crossing from first lane to the last lane and back, driving diagonally.
If you have noticed, these drivers somehow they get together during the process of driving, they may not know each other at all but because they have one thing common that is insanity of driving which brings them together. That’s why these types of drivers will be in a group and you will meet them in batches. The best thing is to avoid them, but you can’t sometime, so you need to learn how to deal with them.
If by any chance you are on their way and you are tailgated (being followed very closely, flashing, honking or visual signaling) do not panic for any hasty change, try to remain calm and change lane if safe (no need to jump lane to avoid them this may endangered you & others), change only when safe, avoid looking too much in the rear view mirror and avoid any eye contact with them.
Generally driving at a fixed speed say 120-140 Kmph would even give you a better mileage in comparison to frequent acceleration/deceleration and at the end of the journey you will feel less tired, less stressed and happy because you saved some fuel and money.
Set your side view and rear view to minimize blind spots. Best (I assume) way is to set your side view mirror with your head at normal driving position so that you can see the side lane. You should not see the side of your car in rear view mirror your car is not a danger to you, maximum (5% of your mirror) may be your rear door handle if protruded outside. Check blind spots after setting mirrors, to check blind spots see continuity of vision from side mirror to rear view mirror. Another fool proof way is to do is a shoulder check before you change lane. I know this is not very common act in this part of the world but this will definitely help you reduce risk during changing lanes.
Appreciate when you see some sensible act by other drivers such as pulling over to attend a call on cell phone, giving way to other drivers, drivers taking care to accommodate other vehicles before changing lanes, this will help you to improve your opinion about safe driving. Encourage people for car share/drive share.
You should enjoy your journey (drive) not just complete it.
