Driver License in Ecuador
Bad news first: there is no such a thing as an exchange of your USA, European etc. license to the Ecuadorian. You must pass through one of the authorized driving schools (like Aneta), $140.00-$165.00 and 1 month, and pass a computerized test in the Jefatura de Transito (ALL in Spanish of course, NO option to pass anything in English, Chinese etc.) - meaning to get your license as if for the first time. I imagine that you can find someone in the driving school who will pass you without being present and, later, some cop who will help you with the official test - but the costs will rise exponentially, and I personally don't recommend it: recently in the attempt to fight corruption some cases surface... and this costs even more. So pass through the school: good experience, practice your Spanish, meet new people. Did I say: good news second? Now that I think about it, there no really any good news about driver license... The process is typical for the third world. Even after all the tests passed, you will kill the whole day, meaning 6-8 hours, to finally get the license.
