Hello fellow Beijingers! Moving next month!!!

Hi Everyone!!

My name is Ruby. I will be moving to Beijing next month (June 15, to be exact). I know others have posted about this before but if anyone has any tips let me know. I'm completely freaking out haha. I'm American from Los Angeles, and never been to China so all I have to compare Beijing to is Chinatown in LA. lol

Thanks everyone!!!

I am sure you will love it here.

Come with an open mind, don't expect everything to be the same as at home and be prepared to have a great time.

If you have any specific question ask and I am sure that people will try and answer each from his/her own perspective

Re: Hello fellow Beijingers! Moving next month!!!

lol, mate. chinatown and beijing are so much in common, food looks dirty but tastes delicious, also bear in mind the hygiene issue.
pros: Beijing is much bigger than any chinatown in world, much more fun there, variety of life styles and entertainments, streets are quite packed even after 9 clock in the evening.

cons: chinese don't queue and talk loudly, smoking on street is permitted. Also be careful of cars - they never give way to pedestrian and right turn is allowed all the times, regardless of traffic light.

I am aussie, just got here 3 wks ago.
Good luck with you new life in beijing,
cheers, m8

Re: Hello fellow Beijingers! Moving next month!!!

Anyone know if it is safe to walk in Beijing at night? I have an internship in Beijing and if I get off late, I don't want to walk home alone. Any tips? Thanks!!

Thanks for the tips! And for clearing up my Chinatown:Beijing dilemma. Hope you're having a blast! By the way, I lived in Australia for a year before... loved it.

no worries, life is quite different in china, why not give a go? I am trying to setup beer clock in my new office, but not many responses so far. Overall beijing is quite safe, unless you are in scantily-clad at some special venue.........

As a fellow American who spent a year in Oz and relocated to China, welcome.

Pretty funny you make the analogy of Chinatown in LA, since Beijing dwarfs LA's population over 5x.

Beijing is quite safe, people are very nice and if you are ever lost most of the time they will try to help you!

Where in Beijing will you be working? I used to live in Los Angeles and China Town might be a good short introduction, but Beijing will really be an eye-opener. So much going on in this city, you'll love it.

Do you speak any Chinese?
