Well it's not quite the Number 14, but not far off.

The other day while riding an SPTrans bus in São Paulo I couldn't help thinking about "The Number 14" a wacky play staged by Vancouver's Axis Theater Company. It has been in theaters for over 16 years now and it is a hilarious account of a bizarre collection of real life bus passengers who used to ride the now defunct #14 Granville / Hastings line. Many of these individuals I have actually seen numerous times many years ago (I've been living in Brazil for over ten years now) and when I saw the play I laughed myself to tears.

Well, I'm happy to say that each of these eccentric characters have their very own real life counterparts here in São Paulo. I chuckled to myself thinking about the fact that no matter how much time passes, no matter how much things change... how they really stay the same. I am sure that if someone tranlated the script into Portuguese and staged the play here in São Paulo it would be a smash hit and most in the audience would readily identify the Brazilian counterparts for each of the Canadian characters.
