Re: internet in Madrid

I don't think you can get to 20 Euros per month for "broadband" internet access in Spain.

I pay 32 Euros per month for Ya.com ADSL (through your telephone line) plus telephone with free local and national calls to landlines. This is about the best deal going in Madrid. CLICK HERE for details, but they say that you can get the first 3 months for 15 monthly. After that, it's 33 Euros per month. The connection speed isn't fast enough (never nearly what they claim to be the "maximum available") to really download movies but for everyday internet use and web browsing, it's fine.

If you're serious about paying little or nothing for internet access, join a local library which offers internet for free. Or, find free public internet (outdoors) in the Plaza de Santo Domingo or at a few bars/restaurants around town - at which you'll have to order at least a drink so is it really worth it?

But I don't think you get get anywhere near 20 Euros per month for internet service at "home" in Spain. Sorry!

Re: internet in Madrid

To get a phone line in your name you first have to prove residency - which you aren't likely to have for awhile. But, possibly, if you have a Spanish bank account you may be able to get a line installed if your name is on the apartment's lease. If you have a "cash agreement" with your landlord (unfortunately common in Spain) (s)he may be able to get intenet and a phone line installed for you but may take 1 to 2 months. The phone line installation can take a long time.

I use Ya.com and they have English-speakers available for accounts and even technical support. I've used them a couple times and, while their English isn't perfect, it's quite good and they're very willing to help.

Best of luck!
