Doing business in Slovenia

Hi,

are foreign investors welcome in Slovenia?

Is it complicated to register a company in Slovenia? What is the procedure?

What is the corporate tax rate in Slovenia?

Is it easy to recruit?

Any advice you would share with us?

Thank you very much for your participation,

Julien

Hi Julien, do you think partnering up with a local Slovenian company to represent you would solve your problem? Perhaps it could be an option if you would like to not go through  registration procedures. Just a thought.

Regards

Hi La Trinity!

Thanks for your input ;)

An individual's income is taxable, as at 2012, at a progressive rate of 16% - 41%.
Corporate income tax rate in Slovenia is 20% in 2012.

More info on tax: DURS

There are some proposed amendments published on Ministry of Finance which are in the public hearing and will bring three major changes:

First gradual reduction in the tax rate from 20% to 15% from 2015 onwards.
During the transition period in 2015 after years of proposing the following tax rates: 2012 18% 2013 17% 2014 16%.
Second restructuring and investment allowances in a manner that would increase the percentage of relief from 30% to 40% of the amount invested in equipment and intangible assets, and to increase the upper threshold entitlement to the allowances of 30,000 euros per year to 60,000 per year,
Third It is proposed to increase the overall tax relief for investments in research and development from 40% to 100% of the amount representing the investment in research and development. As a result, eliminates additional regional tax relief for investments in research and development in less developed areas of the country.

Some change has been promised in the Income Tax Act, which are also in the public hearing (see here):

First the scale of proposed income tax increase in annual net tax base, which forms a boundary between 2 and 3 tax class, the current € 15,681.03 to € 18,716. This way the highest income tax rate of 41% - assuming that person than the standard deduction is not claimed other deductions - applied to income of 1.5 times the average wage in the RS. The revised scale for income tax will be applied in the assessment for 2012, and in addition will also consider the income tax on income from employment and the pension and the income tax from other income, from the date of enactment of the law.

Second increase the allowance for investment in equipment and intangible assets from 30% to 40% of the amount invested

Third increase the allowance for investment in research and development from 40% to 100% of the amount representing the investment in research and development. As a result, eliminates additional regional tax relief for investments in research and development in less developed areas of the country.

4th extending for one year transition period to determine the cadastral income from the production of wine and olive oil and flat-rate income estimates in the hive, which will now begin to determine the entry into force of the new system for determining the cadastral income.

Both laws will preclude the simultaneous exercise of investment allowances and incentives for investment in research and development.

News on deductions will apply to the period from 1.1.2012 onwards!

Hope this helps!
