British Expat moved to Cape Town

Hi, my name is Danni, I have recently moved from the UK to Cape Town and am keen to hear from others who have moved to Cape Town recently. How are you finding the city? Are you settling in and meeting new people?

Cheers,
Danni

Hey Danni,

We have not moved there yet, but Cape Town is #1 on our list so far.  My wife and I are planning on moving in January 2010 to another location abroad and are seriously considering Cape Town first.  We would love to hear about your experience so far :)

Thanks,
G & J

Hi,

I love it here, Cape Town has a lot to offer. Where are you currently living? Cape Town is much like every other city, has all the shops, bars, restaurants etc but with the stunning back drop of Table Mountain! I was lucky enough to line up a job before I moved here so I was lucky on that front. There are stunning beaches and plenty to explore along the coast. I would definitely recommend a visit to Cape Town! Any specific questions let me know.
Danni

Hi danni

Great to hear your thoughts!
I am moving to Cape Town with my 2 small children January 2010.
I am wondering how (and encouraged)you finding a job so quickly. :)My background is in sales & marketing (office space/stock photography/Insurance) and I will be looking for work. I haven't yet started investigating work permits etc. I will be on my 3 month visitors passport whilst my partner and I investigate spouse permit.

Hi Danni

I am currently in Surrey. Hoping to be in Cape Town before the end of the year. My partner had to go ahead of us as his new contract started at the end of August. We will be based in the Southern Suburbs. I am 36, stay at home Mum (for now!) but would love to find some part time work, I keep hearing that it will be difficult for me to find work however.

What are you doing to fill your time outside work?
How are you getting around (I hear the public transport is a no-no!?)
Do you feel safe out and about and at home (Man I have read some scary stories from South Africans abroad!)

I think that's all for now!
Thank you so much for posting and offering answers!

Best wishes :)

Hi Everyone,

danni, hi - i too am new to cape town and am looking to expand my newtork of people . do you fancy hooking up for a coffee? where do you work? perhaps we could meet somewhere near? regards

Andrew

Funny whenever i go to the waterfront its all i hear is english accents. Ilive in midrand and not worried if my friends are SA Or UK I dont think thats the point a friend is friend whever there from right. I would advise any UK pats to visit the waterfront im sure you will bump in English people there ok they might just be on Holidays but it will make you feel closer to home....

Its what i would call a quick fix lol none commitment as well. I think if i were living in Cape Town and not here in JHB Midrand i would pop down there for the very same reason

Keith, Danni has not participated in this forum for four years.  It is unlikely that she shall see your message.

Hello Conrad,
