Re: iphone 4s dilemma....

Hey @galiusman,
ALL iPhones sold in KSA are unlocked. STC & Mobily sell models specific for Arab Emirates which don't have FaceTime.

STC is good to go with.

Re: iphone 4s dilemma....

The Facetime is an (iOS) operating system function and not an App. The advantage is system wise integration to the phone dialer. It's not available in some countries in AE including KSA.

You can use Skype or Tango Apps for video-calling from your phone using 3G. So for me FaceTime unavailbility has never been something important. Also I don't agree with Apple when they require both parties to be on WiFi to be able to facetime together. We aren't on WiFi always after all.

About plans, you need to do some mathematics on your monthly calls cost (domestic only) and the MBs of 3G you expect to consume. My two cents: BASIC or Prepaid:

Re: iphone 4s dilemma....

Unlocking a contract based phone is usually done using GREVY SIM solution (please google). I didn't find people happy about this solution though.

I think iPhone and iPad with face time are now officially available in KSA. I saw advertisement on Jarir's wesite.

Yes, they are. They never publish the prices on ads though.

It's not about ios @RehabDoc. The phones sold in the Middle East (AE models) didn't have face time. It's about Cultural & country restrictions applied by Apple on recommendations from culture ministries in KSA & UAE.

Re: iphone 4s dilemma....

I am planning to buy i Phone 4s in Saudi arabia. Can someone suggest which is the best place to buy: from mobile operators or from the mobile shops. What is the advantage of bundled data pack given by the operators? Thanks.

Re: iphone 4s dilemma....

Yes, iPhone5 is coming soon. So better wait.
I guess the new model will be evolutionary again rather than revolutionary.

Re: iphone 4s dilemma....

which model macbook air?
which processor? harddrive? screen size?

if you dont have to have the latest, get hte phone + computer

the air is a good computer, but a small harddrive since its an SSD.

Re: iphone 4s dilemma....

I hope you understand that:

- Mac-Air is the 'netbook' equivalent series. So don't expect heavy duty performances.
- iPhone5 is not announced yet. if buying from US, take care it's not locked to any telecom carrier (Must be unlocked).

The air is actually outperforming some iMacs on bench testing

Not a netbook

Re: iphone 4s dilemma....

iPhone 5 or new iPhone is expected to be announced on 12 September with sales starting from 21 September. iPhone 4S price will decrease then. Decide your self what suits your budget and needs. I'll wait for new iPhone rather then investing in iPhone 4s at this stage.

Re: iphone 4s dilemma....

I checked on apple website and there are unlocked version of iphone 4s at very cheaper prices but my dad found a dealer in NJ who is selling apple products in bundle, the one i mentioned before iphone 4s (unlocked)+ macbook air 2012 (ivy bridge) at a awesome price on 1500$ which is a sweet deal so I asked my dad to take it my only worry is if i get them to KSA should i use a different charger (due to 110 vs 220 current system) and now i am wondering will I be charged customs for an extra laptop (as i have a lenovo with me during my travel) plzzz advice...

Macbook Air are not netbook equivalents, they are high performance machines, same as the new "ultrabooks" now launched by Intel.

Are MAC's face time enabled?

Yes, the new Macbooks are all facetime enabled, you can message between phone & laptop or any other apple device

i have an iphone 4S that i was using in the uk on contract... can i get it unlocked if i want to use it in KSA... i'll be moving to KSA in about 2 months.

If you are out of your initial contract you can ask your carrier to unlock it, or if you are still under contract you can do an early termination to get it unlocked.
