Marriage woes

I'm in love with this girl, we want to get married. Her parents are separated.

long story short, Ive formally introduced myself to them, and my parents as well. my problem right now is with the father in law.

i know her means well, but his requests are unreasonable and illogical.

I'm an expat (as u can tell), and I have a house back home, his request, more rather, his demand, is that that house needs to be fully furnished. we will not be living there in the immediate future, as she will be joining me here.

she is unable to confront her dad as she is well aware of his responses. so i feel she pressures me to submit to her dads demands, instead of trying to change his mind to how i think. that makes me end up feeling frustrated that she is not doing enough to help us move forward.

i know she loves me, and i love her, am i asking too much of her? or is she expecting too little when it comes to arguing with her father for our sake?

Re: Marriage woes

Maybe she is afraid her dad will no longer want contact with her if she fails to do as he says?
And at the same time she has enough trust in you and your love for her to know you will stand by her no matter what?

I guess it all depends on the kind of relationship she has with her dad and with you. Try asking her what she thinks might happen if she completely sides with you against her dad... She probably knows he can not be reasoned with.

Re: Marriage woes

Surely you already have furniture in your house?
Can you make a list with him of the items you need and agree on what he considers essential?
