Thanksgiving Plans?

Hi, Everyone, Especially Americans,

Does anyone know where I can get a Thanksgiving dinner in Ulaanbaatar?

I'd really like to have something semi-traditional, like turkey.

Please hurry!  Only three more days.

Sincerely,
Leon

The internet search tool is your friend :-)

According to that person's account at least, the US embassy here in UB gets a special shipment of turkeys in November every year.  If you have friends working at the embassy maybe they can hook you up?

I do know that I haven't seen any turkeys at any of nearby supermarkets, though I honestly didn't really expect to since most imported food from the US is the non-perishable kind.  But who knows, perhaps there are stores here that buy the extra turkeys from the embassy shipment?  Now I do know you can find cranberry sauce at the supermarket in Ulaanbaatar Department Store or down the street at Nomin supermarket at the State Department Store (I haven't found stuffing yet though).  I don't know the restaurants here well enough yet to say which MIGHT do special thanksgiving dinners, but I'm willing to bet there's one that might do something along these lines (maybe substituting a different entree for the turkey).

We haven't decided anything yet, but my family will probably try to wing it (bad pun) at home with a chicken recipe of some sort, and try to muster as many other traditional dishes (mashed potatoes & gravy, green bean casserole, salad, pie, and stuffing if we can find it) as we can to make a sort-of-Thanksgiving.  I don't have embassy turkey connections (or even an oven I trust for that matter!) so we have to make to with what we've got...
