Could this be fall?
Could this be fall? Well if the bites didn't hurt it would almost be funny. Fifteen degrees at dawn, has brought on the black flies. Who cares! Its so refreshing! It scares me to think that I feel the same going from our summer to winter as I did at home.
Its the water (which I have hardly been in this year)The thought of it being cool rather than warm gives me chills. The cool morning have changed everything. The wasps are out full force. I can't go within a stones throw from my shed. They really come alive in the 30 degree heat of the day. I have a bomb to plant in there tonight so I can retrieve our camp gear for the weekend. I hope it works!
I wish I could explain what i see on my drive and hikes.
Shapes of greens that vary so intensely they no longer seem to be green. Blue-greens and red-greens, i love the black-greens the fluorescent yellow and lime greens.
Our forests at home are seemingly woodlots, savannahs of reforestation all the same species and age. Its so unnatural with the effects devastating the soil and wildlife.
They act as one huge tree draining the earth of its nutrient until then die prematurely. Being planted together they die off over a relatively short interval of time with little left to take advantage of the rejuvenated ground.
Like a skilled florists arrangement these forests flourish and grow filling in every bit of space yet without smothering each other out, true harmony. Perfectly arranged, canopies of flat top trees shape themselves over the Hydrangeas and Hibiscus with ferns fitted perfectly below. Endless Mango and Tamarind trees fill in the gaps. Fruit and nut trees overhanging the banks of the rivers and streams. Explosions of shrubs in endless shapes, their colour so vibrant, their shape so explosive, they remind me of bursts of fireworks, exotic celebrations of the colour green. Fountains of young shoots that would make fresh sod reflecting the sun off its morning dew appear dull. The forest green and black greens of the cactus and rubber tree plants make the darkness of the undergrowth even darker. The Palms and the coconut trees rocketing through it all trying to reach the stars. Within, lives another story, delicate little creatures, indigo butterflies and moms Christmas tree ornamental birds come alive to hide in the shade of the ferns. Tiny four legged nervous ground rodents scurry in fear of the ever present circling keen eyed falcons. From the distance all you really notice is perfection.
