Child care in Namibia

Hi,

when settling in a new country, working parents are mostly concerned about finding child care services for their children.

What can you share with us about the child care system in Namibia ?

How much is daycare in Namibia?

Is the staff qualified at these daycare centers?

What are the usual opening hours?

Do they provide other services at the daycare center?

Any daycare center in Namibia you would like to recommend to other expats? What makes them special?

Thank you for participating! smile

Re: Child care in Namibia

What can you share with us about the child care system in Namibia ? ....Local Namibians just love children. They are protective and concearned about all children. The Child Care system is very varied due to all the Global Nationalities found here. Mostly English (Montesori), German and Afrikaans Day-Care Facilities are found. The majority are bilingual. Many Home Care providers are available with 2-8 children that they take care of in a Home environment.

How much is daycare in Namibia? Include expensive somewhere here.

Is the staff qualified at these daycare centers? It varies, ask around and ask for Qualification Papers. Mostly one or two staff members are qualified at some of the smaller schools, and the rest of the assistants have been at the school forever, and have lots of experience. At some of the other schools most are qualified. At some  - nobody are formally qualified. Word-of-mouth is the best reference here.

What are the usual opening hours?  Some Day-care facilities operate from 7am to midday, but most offer a care system including all meals and snacks up to 5pm. Every half hour that the parent is late for collecting the learner - they are fined a small amount for "over time".

Do they provide other services at the daycare center? Yes plenty: You get what you pay for and consider that you could opt for the best care incl. Doctors visits(for inoculations or school ground small accidents), Interactive sport participation, Swimming lessons, Ball Sports for early development, Drama Classes, Music Lessons etc.

Any daycare center in Namibia you would like to recommend to other expats? In Windhoek: Kleine Professor, Treintjie Skool, St Georges Kindergarden, DHPS Kindergarten, there is too many to list...There is a long-long-long list. They have waiting lists at the schools. Most offer the First Academic Year School Year as well.

What makes them special? Bilingual, A good reputation, long standing good code of conduct, good press coverage, lots of school activities, their kids are easily accepted in the Primary Schools due to good foundations, they have a good communication system with parents...they have some pets at school for the children to interact with..
