About me

I'm an American expat who left behind a career and the sunshine of  California to move to Iceland with my Icelandic spouse.  We relocated to our new home in 2008 just mere months before the "Kreppa" happened (Icelandic term for "crisis/depression").  I blog about the travails of life as an expat in this strange country with its strange language and volatile economy.   Come visit me online!

I can speak tiny bits of French and Icelandic

My birthday is on 29 November

My path

 Iceland
Reykjavik

I am currently living in Iceland since June 2008

My life & projects in this location:

Since suddenly finding myself in a sort of "immigrant-housewife" status in Iceland, everyday I am challenged with "what shall I do today?". Since I've been mostly unemployed here, I have engaged in several "DIY" projects such as learning html, blogging, attempting to learn some Icelandic , jewelry design, sewing, and cooking foods that I miss so dearly from the US.

My occupation:

It is very difficult now for foreigners to find work in Iceland, so I've decided to enroll in a masters program at the University of Iceland. On the side, I try to make a buck as an amateur jewelry designer.

What I like about this destination:

I love the health care system. It isn't perfect, but it's nice to know I won't go bankrupt if I become ill. The street fashions are unique and I love the coffee houses here. However, the best thing about living in Iceland is being able to make friends with other expats from all over the world.

What I don't like about this destination:

The weather. The awful grocery stores. The language. The programming on local TV stations. Rude customer service. Jeeps. Uptight social norms. The sugary food culture.

My life & projects in this location:

Work, work, work...

My occupation:

What I liked about this destination:

Great weather, cultural diversity, food, wine, & career opportunities.

What I didn't like about this destination:

The horrible traffic, cost of living, air pollution, work-slave culture, & fake people
