After serving 30 years in the federal government, Margie Gibson retired In October, 2007, to develop a new career as a food and travel writer. For the bulk of her career, she worked at the Smithsonian Institution. Her jobs included stints in the National Museum of Natural Historys Office of Education and the Smithsonian Libraries. In 1985, she moved to the National Zoo where she wrote feature stories for Smithsonian publications and organized the Zoos popular public lecture series. In June, 2003, she moved to southern Germany, and a new job as an editor at the Marshall Center, a defense security studies institute. Margie has traveled extensively throughout Europe and North America. She speaks German, picked up a bit of Russian and basic Italian, and studies the Hackbrett, an Alpine folk instrument. Margie uses her interests in food and travel to integrate her favorite subjectsculture, history, and natural historyinto her work.
