About me

Instead of the 2:00 pm martini that past generations of home-makers have turned to to get through the most mundane tasks that comes along with motherhood, I have turned to Ira Glass. Ira's This American Life, that is. Don't get me wrong-I have fun with my kids (not to mention sneak that occasional martini), but like life in general, some activities are less appealing than others. My particular favorite chores to avoid: emptying the dishwasher and doing laundry. I have found a way to actually look forward to these tasks. Now, the prospect of washing dishes or folding laundry has taken an exciting turn-I look forward to that time as my hour or two with Ira.

Not too long ago, as I was enjoying a podcast, from a list of staff favorites, about squirrel cop while sorting-delicates, denim, normal wash, I heard the TV announce that Barack Obama won the Nobel peace prize. Which in turn got me thinking - well, his American life is not as American as apple pie. Which led me to another thought "... just like mine is not." That thought, added to my love of Ira's quest for unusual stories of everyday people has inspired this narcissistic blog about my American experience.

My birthday is on 10 April, I was born in 1971
