In general Romania has been a good place to work. The country has a lot of beautiful places from seaside locations to the mountain regions. The cost of living has been not dissimilar to the North of England where I am from. I found this quite difficult to understand as the local salaries here are a lot lower than the UK.
A lot of the people who don't know us are quite rude. They let doors close behind them in your face, push into queues and generally not respect other people. They have bad manners. There is an intolerance of foreigners and we are treated as second class in a lot of places, which I find quite strange as foreigners plough a lot of money into the economy here, especially in a seaside resort like Mamaia. You need confidence to drive here as the standard of driving and road awareness here is not good. Lane discipline is a lottery and you will often see cars cutting across 3 lanes of traffic to turn on a roundabout, then they beep at you and shout and wave at you as if you're in the wrong. In general they are all in a rush going nowhere.
