I am not yet an expatriate, but I am looking for information about life abroad.

I am American, and I would like to live in Belize. I am currently in Custer, WA.

About me

I am growing increasingly more frustrated with living here and am currently considering letting my house go back to the bank, selling everything I own and bailing out.

Could I still live a simple and comfortable lifestyle in Costa Rica or Belize on $600.00 to $700.00 per month as I am reading about often?

What I would be looking for is something simple...probably just a rental. 1200 square feet or so, three bedroom, maybe a couple acres (fenced would be a huge bonus as I would like to bring my two dogs). Myself and possibly a girlfriend with her 8 year old daughter.

I don't care about the beach. We could drive there if we want. I also don't care that much about being near shopping, people, etc. I'm not saying I want to be marooned out in the middle of nowhere, but I would like to be the one to choose when and who I see.

My birthday is on 17 June, I was born in 1954
