I am not yet an expatriate, but I am looking for information about life abroad.

I am American, and I would like to live in Brazil. I am currently in Los Angeles.

About me

I am considering a move to a South or Central American country, to live permanently, sometime in the next 3 years.  I have been traveling to various mountain cities in Mexico, so far, to "feel out" the scenes.  I've been favoring mountain cities because I don't like the hot hot general climate and am not so excited about coastal living.  I want to be IN or NEAR a big city; am somewhat of a "night person" and want to find things to do (live music, etc) that go on into the wee hours of the night... I will be living on a traditional pension from my civil service job in LA.  It is difficult to find good information about Brazil, in English, online... Am open to any suggestions about what cities/towns to visit (in Brazil or elsewhere).

My birthday is on 30 October
