When in Amsterdam...
I qualified as an international aid worker and travelled the world working on peace and development issues. Along the way I fell in love with a born and breed Amsterdam girl in New York city. Realising that I had done my bit for world peace and it was time to settle down I came to Amsterdam in 2005. My first job in Amsterdam was in the city's only gay lunch room but they soon found out I wasn't gay. Having degrees in history and politics I was asked to show people around Amsterdam. Enjoying the work I found a job with one of the biggest tour guide companies in Europe. I realised that large tour companies have little contact with the community. Dismayed by the large tour operators Omy Amsterdam Tours was established. To date I have shown around 13 000 people around Amsterdam. Young people, children, elderly people, rich and budget travellers alike have seen the sites and learnt the history of Amsterdam. This blog is for people that enjoy weird and wonderful experiences. The topic is Amsterdam from an expat perspective but we share useful and interesting stories about this international city.
